Abstract
Dit werk gaat over de traditionele, ondergeschikte rol van de vrouw in de Vietnamese en aziatische cultuur, dat geplaatst wordt tegenover de huidige emancipatie die in Vietnam aanwezig lijkt te zijn. Of is dit laatste slechts schijn? De structuur van het werk gaat als volgt: na een korte inleiding wordt er als eerste gekeken naar de traditionele rol van de vrouw in Vietnam, waar de vrouw een hierarchisch lagere en ondergeschikte rol heeft ten opzichte van de man, hoewel dit laatste licht genuanceerd door de Vietnamese ethnische minderheid genaamd de ‘Chams’. Vervolgens licht het werk de ontwikkeling van de vrouwenrechten in Vietnam toe, om deze vervolgens te gaan vergelijken met de westerse emancipatie. Tot slot wordt de huidige situatie bekeken.
