Abstract
De studiesessie van het Olivaint Genootschap van België in Vietnam in juli 2024 was een ervaring voor het leven. Het is als 22-jarige student een grote eer om een dergelijk rijk en intellectueel uitdagend programma te mogen afwerken. Doorheen de reis werd ik dan ook vaak sterk geprikkeld om me verder in bepaalde zaken te verdiepen. Als recent afgestudeerde politieke wetenschapper, met een sterke interesse in internationale (geo-)politiek, kijk ik met bewondering naar de bijzondere geopolitieke en geo-economische positie waarin het land zich op het moment van dit schrijven bevindt. Tijdens verschillende conferenties kon ik mezelf niet van de indruk ontdoen dat Vietnam bijzonder veel gelijkenissen vertoont met het groeiparcours van haar grote buur, de Volksrepubliek China (hierna: PRC). Deze strategienota zal dan ook focussen op de verschillen en gelijkenissen die heersen tussen beide landen, vanuit een breed internationaal en macro-economisch perspectief. Het doel van dit schrijven is niet om exhaustief te zijn, maar om de lezer zo beknopt en correct mogelijk te informeren over het antwoord op de onderzoeksvraag.
